Does Hypnotherapy Work For All People?

You might wonder, does hypnotherapy work? Could it be that easy to solve some of your long standing problems? The answer is yes. First you need to understand what hypnotherapy is. It is a totally natural state of mind. When doing hypnotherapy with a trained hypnotherapist you will feel very relaxed and peaceful. You might even wish that the session could last forever, it is so enjoyable!

Hypnotherapy has been widely misunderstood perhaps because of stage hypnosis. It is a form of entertainment and has nothing to do with hypnotherapy. There is a misconception that you might loose control, when in fact you are actually more in control and more focused! Hypnotherapy is a professional partnership between the hypnotherapist and the client. A person cannot be hypnotized unless he or she agrees and co-operates.
Hypnotherapy is a valuable therapeutic tool for enhancing a client's self-awareness and helps them to assume responsibility for healing themselves as well as giving them the tools and skills they need to do so.

I find once clients understand hypnosis and are in this deeply relaxed state, they love being there because it is so enjoyable to bypass the conscious mind and go into that place of "inner creative absorption" that is so visual and interesting. Once you quiet the conscious mind and learn to visit your inner world you will find that you can access that part of you that is beyond your conscious awareness. It is like going in to the files of your computer where everything is stored and being able to access your dreams, your past memories, and even heal a wound. Your subconscious knows how to relax you deeply and helps you accomplish the goals you have set for yourself. It just needs direction! You need to tell it what you want so it can go about helping you. If you get in a car and just start driving but don't know where you want to go you most likely won't end up where you want to be.

Hypnosis is one of the quickest ways to get where you want to go and the most enjoyable that I know of, because all the while you are in a deeply relaxed state, the work is being done! You and your therapist go on an inner journey together and when things come up your therapist can guide you through it in a way that can help heal past traumas, wounds, addictions, whatever it is that you are struggling with. It is done in a gentle but very effective way. Usually in 4 to 5 sessions most of my clients find the relief they were looking for or resolve the problem that they came in with. That isn't to say that more work doesn't need to be done on their own; and scheduling a tune up once in awhile but that has been my experience.

Everything you have learned is stored in your subconscious. Take driving for example; you have already learned to drive so your driving skill is stored in your subconscious.

Once you back out of your driveway and maneuver out on to the highway your conscious mind is then free and begins to drift off because the knowledge for driving exists in your subconscious. You conscious mind daydreams or goes off into deep thought, allowing your subconscious to become more active. When your attention is needed to stop or change lanes then your conscious mind comes into play again. Driving is only one activity; you go in and out of trance many times a day. Whenever you do anything automatic, your conscious mind is diverted from your subconscious and you are more likely to go into a hypnotic state, such as the one described. Other examples of automatic states are when you are taking a shower, jogging or perhaps eating alone.

With simple hypnotic, relaxation techniques that your hypnotherapist guides you through; you can begin to visualize yourself becoming healthier, happier, more confident, lose weight, stop smoking or whatever it is that you want to do! When in that relaxed, trance state you are more receptive to suggestion.

Hypnotherapy works for most people but it isn't just a snapping of the fingers. The client has to do some of the work too. It depends a lot on how motivated you are to change. The Hypnotherapist will help you to do the change work in your mind and reframe old belief systems. You will also learn many new ways to deal with your issue, as well as have post hypnotic suggestions for when your old behavior surfaces. You may also have some homework and hypnosis recordings to take home and listen to on a nightly basis. It is a very enjoyable way to work with your issues!

Hypnotherapy for Anxiety and Health

As you sit comfortably reading this article, is your attention solely focused on these words, or are you sat there barely paying attention to the words on screen? You may have briefly let go of your troubles in order to read that last sentence, but soon enough, your mind will slip back into "busy mode" and you'll be thinking such things as:

How much time do I have to spare to read this article?I wonder if my plans will go ahead for the weekend?I wonder what'll happen if I continue reading and lose track of time?

The mind wanders constantly, from one distraction to another - it's a vicious cycle. Controlling the mind and relaxing is key to breaking this cycle. It's no wonder that stress accumulates with life moving at such a fast pace, dedicating ourselves to working hard, managing finances, remaining healthy - everything we think we should be doing.

Many people look for an answer elsewhere, they want to get more enjoyment out of life, achieve more and have an inner sense of happiness. What do we do to combat this usually? Pop a bottle of champagne? Turn on their iPad's or even take a light sleep on the sofa? We must ask ourselves, are these the most productive ways with dealing with stress? Is killing brain cells with alcohol, the most productive way to achieve relaxation and forget our troubles? In an ideal world, we'd like to think so, but it's often not the case. The rising rates of people taking anti-depressants could suggest otherwise.

Many societies throughout the world, use hypnosis in a variety of different ways. Most are based around controlling the body into a state of relaxation and controlling the physical muscles till they are fully relaxed. Then you move on by concentrating on the breathing and letting the body and mind fall into a deep state of relaxation. The hypnotist can often use powerful imagery to help your brain imagine such things as strolling through a quiet countryside or descending an endless amount of stairs, usually repetitive scenarios that you find it easy to conjure. You then lose yourself in the scenario that you have imaged and almost feel like you are living the fantasy. There is a fine line between sleep and hypnosis in this situation - that is why it is preferred that you don't lay down on your bed for such activities.

Often relaxation can be used to tackle other problems in life, trouble sleeping is one of the most common problems that we go through. Sleeping and recharging the body is key to staying healthy, both physically and mentally. Hypnosis for insomnia is often a popular choice with people who use hypnotherapy as an aid in any aspect of their life. Using the relaxation techniques from the hypnotist can train the subconscious mind into not keeping you awake at night with worry or the stress that occurs as a result of insomnia. Another popular choice amongst hypnosis receivers, is help with addictions, most commonly cigarettes. Hypnosis to stop smoking can help heal the minds cravings and relax the hypnotic receiver, into not reaching for the cigarette packet at the earliest time. Often used to combat stress, smoking can be overcome with the help of hypnotherapy.

Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy As a Way to Cure Stress From Work

In today's fast-paced lifestyle, a lot of people are starting to experience the pressures brought by modern living. Many people feel that life has become too much oriented with their work and careers that they have already lost the personal meaning of life in their conscious minds. Life may have been simple and easy to handle in the past, but with today's complicated lifestyle, many people are beginning to feel stressed out with the repetitive patterns of waking up, facing a 9 to 5 job and going home only to wake up again in the morning to do the same stuff.

If you are one of the millions of people experiencing career burnout and stress from repetitive work, a vacation experience might do you good. A breathe of fresh air every once in a while is always a welcome sight especially if you are beginning to feel that you are losing your life's worth over work. However, the problem with going out on a vacation holiday is that you won't be able to attend to your daily job if you try to go for one. A vacation leave is not available at all times so this is not a practical cure for too much stress from work.

To alleviate the stress and career burnout that you might be experiencing, one good alternative that you can try is hypnosis. Having won the support of many medical practitioners due to calculated and measured studies done in the past, hypnosis and hypnotherapy are now considered as valid approaches for curing stress and burnout caused by work. Hypnosis alleviates stress by soothing and relaxing the mind through suggested and repeated instructions. By working through the inner workings of the mind and talking to the consciousness of an individual, a hypnotist can improve the mental health of a person which in turn reduces the stress caused by repetitive work.

What Are The Treatments And Procedures Of Clinical Hypnotherapy?

What is Clinical Hypnotherapy?
Clinical hypnotherapy is a unique technique that employs hypnosis on people to help control pain. It transforms memory, perceptions, response, and control for several physiologic functions which are mostly involuntary.

Clinical hypnotherapy uses intense concentration, relaxation, and attention to accomplish an awareness condition, which is often referred to as "trance". While it is being practiced, the patient's attention is so intense that everything else in the surroundings is ignored and temporarily blocked. This comes naturally to the patient and s/he is able to concentrate on certain tasks or thoughts under the guidance of a certified therapist.

How does it Work?
According to medical practices, hypnotherapy facilitates psychotherapy (also called counseling) and is not a direct mode of treatment. It helps immensely with conjunction to psychotherapy, since the state of hypnotism allows patients to discover their underlying painful feelings, thoughts, memories and emotions that they have never been able to acknowledge themselves. The process of clinical hypnotherapy helps people distinguish several aspects in an absolutely different manner, for example, obstructing the sense of pain at any area of the body.

Clinical hypnotherapy is applied in two ways in patients:

1. Suggestion Therapy
Under this treatment, the hypnotic state enables the patient to respond to suggestions in a better mode. It can also help many patients transform bad behaviors or quit undesirable habits like nail-biting, smoking and alcohol consumption. Moreover, it may also help patients change sensations and perceptions. It is mainly used to treat body pain.

2. Analysis
With this approach, the patient goes under a relaxed state to identify the underlying cause of any symptom or disorder. For example, a person may be experiencing traumatic episodes of a past event that have been hidden in his/her unconscious memory. When the therapist is able to find out the root cause, it becomes easier to address it through psychotherapy.

The Benefits of Clinical Hypnotherapy
Since the hypnotic state of the patients allows them to respond affirmatively and openly to suggestion and discussion, it helps to treat several health conditions. These include sleep disorders, stress, loss and grief, fear, phobias and anxiety, depression, and post trauma anxiety.

Clinical hypnotherapy can also be used to control body pain, as well as control habits like overeating and smoking. Moreover, it is immensely helpful for people whose condition is severe and needs crisis management.

Myth
It is myth that hypnotism is a dangerous health procedure, whereas it is not. The therapist cannot urge the patient to do something forcefully.

The Benefits of Cognitive Hypnotherapy

Cognitive Hypnosis is often related to some form of stage performance wherein a host places an audience member under a trance to manipulate him into doing some ridiculous actions. But contrary to this outdated idea, cognitive hypnosis (also known as cognitive hypnotherapy) is recognized as an effective and evidence based treatment to help people reach their goals.

What Makes Cognitive Hypnosis Different?

It is different from traditional hypnosis as it aim is to identify the unique mind-pattern programme of the problem and to guide the person's unconscious towards the solution. It is tailored to the individual, which means the changes are more likely to be accepted by the unconscious mind, making them ongoing and permanent.

Soothing Effects

It has been used for years as a way of soothing patients and calming their nerves. It uses behavioral therapy and combines it with hypnosis to tap into a person's thoughts and consciousness. Through this hypnosis, patients who are suffering from high levels of stress, anxiety, and even trauma can be resolved and guided and educated how to learn how to relax so they can tap into their own inherent abilities to be calm.

Phobias

This is a popular treatment for clients with extreme fears and phobias. In some cases, clients' fears are so deep and engrained into their consciousness that regular therapy fails to have any effect. With cognitive hypnosis, therapists are able to access their inner thoughts' and go to the root cause of the problem where the mind learned how to do this behavior. The principle of 'all behavior has a purpose' is used so the therapist focuses on the unique context, structure and process that the client has to identify the purpose behind the behavior. Even a limiting fear based behavior has a positive intention (safety / protection) and the goal is to unlearn and relearn a new way to still fulfill the intention and purpose of safety and protection without the need for the limiting behavior. In this sense, cognitive hypnosis retrains the mind creating a new learned behavior that actually which empowers the client instead of limiting them.

Sports Performance

This approach is highly effective and has been used in several fields including sports performance. Sometimes, in the world of sports, an athlete will suddenly perform below his abilities for no apparent reason. One of the best alternative treatments therapists use today is cognitive hypnosis. In some cases, cognitive hypnosis helps an athlete regain some form of focus and discard the distraction that caused the abrupt drop in performance.

Addictions

It is also a very effective means of helping people get over their addictions. Although most addictions are tied with chemical dependence of a certain drug or substance, there are also cases wherein clients are also psychologically addicted. In such cases, cognitive hypnotherapists can access that person's subconscious and treat the addiction with therapeutic hypnosis.

Weight Loss

Hypnosis is perhaps best known as an alternative treatment for people who are looking to lose weight. In some cases wherein people are compelled by some unknown force to keep eating, hypnosis is a great way to tap into that person's subconscious are treat the underlying compulsion to eat. In recent times, advances in the field of psychoanalysis and behavioral therapy have allowed hypnotherapists to help clients with weight loss problems.

The only problem is that you have to be able to stick to it long term to lose a meaningful amount of weight, and possible indefinitely to maintain the weight loss. We as human beings have shown ourselves to be spectacularly bad a sticking to diets. Issues of deprivation, motivation, willpower, stress and emotion all come into play to sabotage our latest diet. The answer is to use hypnotherapy to work on these issues at a deep level, helping us to reduce stress, change unconscious habits, see food, and ourselves differently and make lasting changes that we can stick to.
3. Stress. Stress occurs when we negatively react to the environment around us. We can't always change the things that happen in our lives, but we do have the power to change our responses. Hypnosis allows you to tap into inner resources to manage stress more effectively, to cope better in any situation and remain calm and relaxed no matter what life throws at you.

5. Fear or phobias. Get control over your mind and your life by conquering your fears with hypnotherapy. During the relaxed state of hypnosis, you can explore reasons for your fear, move past them and replace feelings of fear with those of controlled calmness.
It is a pleasant, relaxing and enjoyable experience. Some clients describe it as being like an enjoyable daydream, and some enjoy it so much that they want to stay for longer in that relaxed state. You remain aware and in control at all times.
Stage hypnotists thoroughly vet their participants before hand - they choose extroverts who want to perform on the stage and who would not embarrass themselves or the hypnotist by not playing along. Since hypnosis cannot make someone do something they do not want to do, the participant subconsciously wants to do as the hypnotist asks and play along. Although this can demonstrate the power of hypnosis, it differs from hypnotherapy in a number of ways. Your best interests are always at heart, and your integrity is of the utmost importance.
